Yang Se-jong and Moving actor eyed for K-drama The Hooligans, Jeon Do-yeon tipped for crime thriller The Price of Confession: Korean drama casting latest


If the title already sounds familiar, that may be because the drama was originally set to star Song Hye-kyo and Han So-hee and be directed by Lee Eung-bok (Descendants of the Sun). However, following Lee’s exit and rumoured creative differences, the stars walked and the project was temporarily put on hold.

The story follows the tribulations of two women who find themselves involved in a grisly murder case.

Reportedly taking over the vacated director’s job is Lee Jung-hyo, who was responsible for the smash hit Crash Landing on You and this year’s Netflix romantic drama Doona!

Jeon will also soon feature in the film Revolver, alongside Ji Chang-wook and Lim Ji-yeon. The film reunites her with The Shameless director Oh Seung-wook.

After production is confirmed, the series is expected to land on a global streaming platform.

2. Crash

Kwak will play Min So-hee, who heads a traffic-crime investigation team. So-hee has a knack for solving traffic cases and her impressive judo skills also come in handy for her job.

Lee is on board to play Cha Yeon-ho, a logically minded graduate from Kaist – Korea’s top technical university – with an IQ of 158. Yeon-ho finds himself partnering with So-hee on her cases.

Meanwhile Heo will portray Jung Chae-man, So-hee’s boss in the traffic crime team. A veteran detective known for being competitive, Chae-man stands up to corruption in the police force.

Crash will be directed by Park Joon-woo of the hit action-comedy series Taxi Driver. The show is scheduled to hit screens in the first half of 2024.

3. The Hooligans

Rising actor Yang Se-jong, who recently appeared opposite Bae Suzy in the Netflix series Doona!, has received an offer to star in The Hooligans. The role was previously offered to Ji Chang-wook, who ultimately turned it down.
Also approached to star in the series is Moving actor Ryoo Seung-ryong, who is well known for box-office hits such as Roaring Currents and Miracle in Cell No. 7.

Set in the 1970s, the show follows a young man and his uncle who team up to sell fake goods in a bid to escape penury. The pair eventually get an opportunity to go searching for treasure and don’t hesitate.

The series is based on the webtoon Pine by Yoon Tae-ho, whose works have previously been adapted as the films Inside Men and Moss, as well as the hit series Misaeng.
The series will be directed by Kang Yoon-sung, known for the film The Outlaws and the recent Disney+ drama Big Bet.

4. Climax

Kingdom actor Ju Ji-hoon is mulling over an offer to appear in the streaming series Climax.

The series will be written and directed by Lee Ji-won, known for her breakout debut film Miss Baek, which starred Han Ji-min. Her second film, Portrait of a Family, with Ryoo Seung-ryong and Ha Ji-won, is currently awaiting release. Climax will mark her first drama series.

Beyond its director and production company (Hive Media Corp, which is responsible for the current box office sensation 12.12 The Day), no details about the project’s plot have so far been made public.

K-drama casting latest: Lee Se-young set for What Comes After Love

Ju was seen this past summer in the big-budget action comedy Ransomed, which reunited him with his Kingdom director Kim Seong-hun and his Along with the Gods co-star Ha Jung-woo.
The busy actor has several projects on the way, including the disaster-horror film Project Silence, which premiered this year at the Cannes Film Festival, and the series Dominant Species and The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.

Climax is scheduled to enter production in the summer of 2024.
