What are Rolex’s most exciting releases at Watches and Wonders 2024? All 6 launches from the Geneva-based watchmaker, from more Day-Date variations to a diamond-encrusted Daytona

From mixing metal finishes, to contrasting materials like diamond and mother of pearl, the brand is taking a relatively understated (for Rolex, at least) approach than in recent years.

We spoke with Bob’s Watches CEO Paul Altieri about each model following the much-anticipated announcement.

Take a look at the new line-up.

1. Grey and black bezel GMT-Master II

Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II

While the GMT’s classic red and blue “Pepsi” colour combination is a proven winner, this year’s grey and black bezel brings a more subtle option to the model, while still representing the division of day and night hours that are the hallmark of the original.

Altieri said that rumours swirled in the watch community that the Pepsi colourway would be replaced by a black and red “Coke” variation before the grey and black bezel’s unveiling.

Why are all these celebrities investing in watch brands?

2. New variations on the classic Day-Date

Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40

The Day-Date is in many ways Rolex’s playground for unique combinations of faces and metals, and this year the model’s two sizes, 36mm and 40mm, each feature two new variants.

The larger version now comes in Rolex’s custom Everose gold with a slate ombré dial, or in white gold with a mother of pearl dial. Meanwhile, the smaller sibling is available in yellow gold and a white dial, or in Everose gold with a blue-green dial.

3. An encore for last year’s all-new Perpetual 1908

Perpetual 1908

Rolex introduced the Perpetual 1908 last year in homage to the year that founder Hans Wilsdorf named the company. In a departure from 2023’s conservative brown and black options, the 1908 now features a platinum case and a meticulously etched ice blue dial.

The new details take the collection to “the next level of exclusivity” while bringing classical elegance that’s rare in Rolex’s catalogue today, Altieri said.

4. Dozens of diamonds for the Daytona

The Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona

The iconic Daytona features two new mother of pearl colour combos – one light face with dark counters and one dark face with light counters – set against a bezel of three dozen brilliant-cut diamonds.

When we said the line-up was less flashy, we weren’t talking about this one.

The blinged-out timepiece carries “a long tradition of ultra-luxurious Daytona watches”, Altieri said.

5. A snappy new bracelet for the Sky-Dweller

The Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller

The big news for the Sky-Dweller this year is less about the watch itself and more about the new version of Rolex’s Jubilee bracelet. With satin-finished outer links surrounding polished inner links, the bracelet also has ceramic inserts to help it stay comfortable and flexible for years to come. The dials in slate and white don’t look half bad, either.

6. The Deepsea goes gold

The Oyster Perpetual Rolex Deepsea
Rolex’s ultimate dive watch, the Deepsea, is rated for a depth of 3,900 metres (12,800ft, or nearly 15 Bank of America HQ skyscrapers) – far deeper than the 1,000ft rating of the more common Submariner.

For 2024, the watch is available in 18-karat gold, contrasting against a bright blue ceramic bezel. Titanium is used for the caseback and the specialised pressure valve, offering a distinctive grey accent.

The new Deepsea is “easily the most noteworthy” watch in this roll-out, Altieri said. The bezel, in particular, makes it Rolex’s “most luxurious dive watch”, he added.
