While China’s mainland and Hong Kong continue to impose strict travel restrictions, rules have been relaxed in other parts of Asia over the past 48 hours.
In Singapore, as of today, vaccinated travellers no longer have to submit a PCR test on arrival.
In Japan, Prime Minister Fumio Kashida announced yesterday that foreign students and business travellers will now be able to enter the country.
“It is just the first step. I will continue considering how much we can ease measures,” said Kashida at a press conference yesterday.
Japan still maintains a daily maximum quota for foreign arrivals, however, it has now been lifted from 3500 to 5000.
Meanwhile, a decision was made in Indonesia this week to reduce the mandatory quarantine period for foreign arrivals who have had three vaccine doses from five days to three days.
The reduction will come into effect on Monday next week (21 February).
As restriction ease, airlines and their investors, will be hoping for an increase in traffic. Earlier this week Hong Kong’s flagship carrier Cathay Pacific (HKG: 0293) revealed it carried less than 25,000 passengers last month.
