Hong Kong’s Musicians Foundation is presenting a series of TEDx-style talks on mental health awareness among the music industry this Sunday.
Entry is free, but reservations are required – HKFP is a media partner.
The English-language talks by singer and entertainer Johnny Lau, and DJ, producer and label owner Craig Lopez, will focus on the well-being of music professionals amid the years of Covid-19 restrictions in the city.
Linda Moana who is a Love, Sexuality and Relationship Coach will talk about self-care and lead a Healing Sounds Taoist practice.
The event will also include a performance by Lau, and a networking session.
Last July, the foundation revealed that over half of those employed in the sector had suffered from anxiety and depression, with the industry hit hard by strict Covid rules. Band leaders, crew members, musicians, sound engineers and event organisers were among the 465 professionals surveyed. Eleven per cent said they had experienced suicidal thoughts over the space of a year, whilst 56 per cent of respondents had suffered from anxiety and depression.
