Dive Brief:

  • Mackenzie succeeds Marc Rey, who has decided along with the board to transition the brand “to a new phase of leadership for Beautycounter.” Rey was CEO of the beauty brand since February 2022.
  • Beautycounter also appointed Nicole Malozi — who previously worked at Tatcha and Nike — as its new chief financial officer, succeeding Zach Shuler. Additionally, former Executive Chair and Group CEO of Natura & Co Roberto Marques has joined Beautycounter’s board of directors as chair.

Dive Insight:

Beautycounter’s latest executive shuffle is meant to jumpstart a new phase for the brand.

“We thank Marc Rey for his contributions to Beautycounter and for laying the foundation for the next phase of growth for the business,” Beautycounter’s board of directors said in a statement. “We appreciate his dedication and service and wish him all the best in his future endeavors. We are thrilled to welcome Mindy, Roberto, and Nicole to the leadership team. We remain committed to Beautycounter’s mission and to continue to Raise Up Beauty for all and know this collective expertise will be invaluable as we continue to grow the business and focus on operational excellence.”

Mackenzie joins Beautycounter after most recently acting as partner and chief performance officer at Carlyle. Prior to that, she worked at McKinsey, Jim Beam, Walmart and Campbell Soup.

Beautycounter launched in 2013 and sells beauty products including makeup and skin care. The omnichannel brand calls itself a leader in clean beauty and sells online, through company stores and via “brand advocates.”

In February, Beautycounter started selling through mass retailer Ulta Beauty both in stores and online. Beautycounter is included in Ulta’s Conscious Beauty category showcasing brands “featuring clean ingredients that are cruelty free and sustainably packaged.”
