Penang animal welfare organistion IAPWA hopes to raise RM80,000 during its August carnival

GEORGE TOWN, June 6 ― The International Aid for the Protection and Welfare of Animals (IAPWA) in Penang hopes to raise RM80,000 during its second pet carnival in August.

IAPWA president Choong Koon Yean said it managed to raise RM60,000 during the inaugural carnival last year.

According to Choong, the carnival this year will be held on August 12 and 13 at Gurney Paragon Mall.

“Instead of just one day, we are extending it for another day to accommodate our vendors,” she said, adding that many of the vendors were from out of state and they wanted to make their trip worthwhile.

Besides the extended event, there will also be talks on canine acupuncture and chiropractic treatments.

“So far, two veterinarians who offer the services have confirmed their participation,” said Choong.

With the aim of improving from last year’s event, Choong said there will also be a talk by an animal communicator.

“We will also be having a dog adoption drive featuring dogs that were rescued.”

All funds raised during the two-day event will go towards the organisation’s trap neuter and release programme which have benefited 5,175 strays since it began in March 2018.

Booths measuring 0.9 metres by 1.8 metres are available for rent at RM800 for two days.

“So far 40 per cent of the 40 booths have been taken and we welcome vendors of pets and human products to join us.”
